Kind , Empathetic , easy going
My name is Alex and I am 36 years old. I am happily married and am lucky enough to have two crazy boys who are aged 2 and 4.
I have been a paediatric nurse for nearly 10 years and I work in nurse education these days in London
I have HNPP which is a peripheral neuropathy condition and have a history of anxiety/panic attacks when I around 20 and have lived with chronic pain for the last 4 or 5 years.
Despite this these days I am an easy going kind of guy who loves helping people when I can. My main passion is guitar and I play in a band (when I have time!)
I started having anxiety panic attacks in my early 20's so I know just how distressing it can be. I've tried tons of different therapy types over the years and luckily found several things that have worked for me and learn't some useful statergies and tricks on the way. The most important thing I learn't was that you can change how you feel and we aren't stuck as we are. Nobody would believe that the young man with panic attacks would one day be a quaified teacher who gets up on stage to perform in his band. It takes time but with the right support anything is possible
I've had chronic pain for the last 5 years mainly involving the nerves in my back and arms. It's a real struggle at times but some times just talking to someone in a similar situation can help.
As a nurse I have worked with complex pain patients throughout my career so I have a very good understanding of the mechanisms of pain and I know a lot about pain medication. I even worked on some clinical trials involving the latest drugs on the market. I have used lots of other techniques to cope with pain such as mindfulness and hypnosis and am happy to share my experiences
I have been a trained paediatric nurse for nearly ten years now so I have a broad knowledge of health problems especialy with children. I am particularly knowledgable in the field of medicines as well as orthopaedic and spinal surgery
One thing I have learn't over the years is that we are never stuck in the state that we find ourselves. Luckily when I had panic attacks I had amazing support from family and friends and I got the right help when I needed it (CBT) I see so many people going through similar things and anxiety can make life such a miserable place to be with no way out. Thats why I want to help people with similar problems as I know things can get better especially with that extra bit of help and support from the right person. I have tried many different therapies and approaches over the years which have allowed me to change from a very shy nervous wreck to a happy family man, Childrens nurse, teacher and rock star (almost!) If I can do it so can anyone and if I can help someone, even if in the smallest bit then it's worth it.
