Jovial , Serious , Contradictory
I'm a 40-something married father of 2 who's spent his entire career working in media. I'm passionate about music, food, family, style and making a difference. Like most, my life's been full of ups and downs - a generally happy career but with some "tricky" times including job losses; a generally happy homelife but with the usual grief that domesticity and kids can bring; generally good health but with "adjustments" having to be made following brushes with alcoholism, etc. I enjoy a good social life, have many interests an am a practising Catholic with an active role in the Church.
I've been made redundant twice and sacked once. In all instances I've benefited from good advice and have found the experience to ultimately be an opportunity for positive change. It's tough to experience, but positivity and an open-mind help me through.
I've spent my career in media. It's a sociable industry with a justified reputation for partying lifestyle. I functioned for years with a drink problem, before becoming reliant. This contributed to job loss, almost family loss, and a decline in health (mental and physical). I quit 5 years ago, sought and got advice, and managed to maintain my career in spite of having to turn my back on both lifestyle and some friends. It's a tough issue, but I've been there and would like to help if anyone else is in the same boat.
I converted to Catholicism 8 years ago. It's been a major help and force for good in my life. I now actively help others in my parish who wish to convert and would be happy to share my knowledge around faith and identity.
In my darker times I've found the help offered by a rich variety of sources to be invaluable. I mentor as part of work, and mentor as part of role in the Church. As I've developed through life I've found that the importance of honest and open feedback is vital to your self awareness, and with specific personal experience of job loss, redundancy, drink problems I have a viewpoint. This viewpoint has helped with numerous friends and aquantances who've faced similar situations. Finally, I've got a lot out of life and from others and I'd like to give something more back.
