Self description

Male , 33

I graduated with honours in law at University. I studied my LLB in law before going on to law school to commence my PGC (Postgraduate Certificate) in Criminal Litigation. I have a passion for the law and my area of specialism is in constitutional law.
I am a member of two autism charities which provide help, support and guidance to adults with autism. The charity teaches people with autism life skills, how to socialise and form relationships with other people. This is a fun and ever developing charity to be a part of and membership can lead to many opportunities.
I also do seasonal work in helping to deliver autism awareness training courses to the public. My role is to educate the public and give them an awareness of autism spectrum. I give talks on autism and life experiences and I enjoy this role as it gives me satisfaction knowing that I am helping to make a difference.

Life experiences

Autism Spectrum

I have a passion for helping disabled people and those with autism. I am a member of two autism charities which were set up to help adults with autism. The charities offer help and support with everyday life skills and social interaction in the community. If anyone has any concerns for a relative or friend with autism or who is suspected of having autism I am available to advise them about what they can do to get help and support for adults with autism.

I have my own experiences of the education system and I know what student life can be like. When I went to university I learnt to acquire patients and determination. I was determined to see my academic studies through successfully. I enjoyed the studying and it gave me a real sense of commitment. Being a student is costly so you must make sure that there is enough money to support yourself throughout your studies. If you have a disability the support is always there to help students in the way they want to be supported. It is also important to know what loans are available and where to go for advice if you are thinking of entering higher education.

The Welfare State

I have my own experiences of being taken through the benefits system and what it is like to apply for welfare payments and how daunting the process can be. I know how you are made to feel when you step into a job centre; there is all the form filling and being sent round different departments. I know what it is like to have to explain your case over and over again to different people. I also have experience in dealing in appeals against arbitrary decisions.

Why mentor on horsesmouth?

My desire to become a mentor was no surprise to me. I enjoy meeting new people and I like to engage in debates. I am willing to discuss any issue or matter that anyone wishes to talk about. I have a passion for the law and I hold my own sets of values. I know being a mentor will give me the opportunity to express myself and make my voice heard in the most appropriate way. Mentoring can lead to friendships and forming connections for economic purposes. It is good to talk and have a chat because people may have something on their mind which they want to discuss and mentoring is a therapeutic activity especially as each party discusses their life experiences. I know how important a friendly ear and some good advice can be and it’s an opportunity to speak to the community.

I am very lucky to have found your website. Recently I wrote about a problem which I face very often.... There were 10 responses from 10 mentors. They have really explained to me and made me understand that I do not have any problem. Your services are wonderful and I am very much thankful to all of you.

I have been mentoring on HM for 18 months. I really enjoy it & hopefully I am helping other people. Recently I posted my my first 'request for a mentor'. I have been completely bowled over by the response. So many people taking their time & making the effort to offer constructive advice in a friendly polite manner. For me it completely validates the intent behind HM. It reminds me how many good, helpful people there are out there. Thanks for providing such a great service.
'I called out for mentor assistance a week or so ago.

I have been inundated with unbelievably helpful replies, and now have a toolkit to draw on to start turning around behaviours and mind-sets that have been detrimental in my life.

I just want to thank Horsesmouth and all the amazing people who reached out to me.  Each and every one of you has given me something to think about, and some have given me heaps of material with which to start working.  Now I need to do the work! Thank you so much!'
