Self description

Female , 29

Im from Liverpool and I am studying psychology and forensic science at my home city. I am half Chinese, half English and I am proud of my culture. I come from a single parent family and I have 5 uncles, 4 aunties and 22 cousins! I live with my mum and younger brother and I also have a younger half brother and sister.
I have been through heartbreak and love, parents divorce and anger, stress and school and I have always been an introvert with low self confidence but I think I have become a stronger person because of all my experiences. I am still learning and I want to help people who may be on the same journey.

Life experiences

Divorce

My parents divorced when I was 6 years old and my brother Kyle was 3 years old and my mum brought us up basically on her own since then. It was difficult at first because me and Kyle became insecure and it was hard not having a father figure in our lives. But I am so proud of my mum for all she has done for us both.

Psoriasis and Stress

Psoriasis is a skin condition were skin cells develop too fast and appear as red, flaky marks on the surface of the skin. I found out that I had this when I was 16 years old. It is thought that psoriasis can be triggered by stress and I know that I get stressed easily especially when deadlines are due and exams are looming so I take out a little time for myself and talk to someone or just sit on my own and listen to some music.

Mixed race

I am half Chinese as my dad is from Hong Kong. I am proud of my culture and background but sometimes other people don't appreciate this or are not educated about other races. I did suffer some bullying at school and have been racially abused in public. I do react angrily sometimes but I try to ignore it if it happens, I know that I am the better person if I walk away. I am proud of who I am and others have no right to judge me by the way I look. I like that I am different and I won't let anyone bring me down.

Why mentor on horsesmouth?

I think Horsemouth is a great opportunity to help others and helpfulness has always been in my nature. A couple of years ago my friend had depression and was thinking about suicide and I think that if I wasn't there to listen to her and comfort her she might not be here today and this experience encouraged me a lot to help others. But I, myself have been helped by others to get through my difficult situations or experiences and it was a real relief for me and I think everyone deserves to be listened to.

I am very lucky to have found your website. Recently I wrote about a problem which I face very often.... There were 10 responses from 10 mentors. They have really explained to me and made me understand that I do not have any problem. Your services are wonderful and I am very much thankful to all of you.

I have been mentoring on HM for 18 months. I really enjoy it & hopefully I am helping other people. Recently I posted my my first 'request for a mentor'. I have been completely bowled over by the response. So many people taking their time & making the effort to offer constructive advice in a friendly polite manner. For me it completely validates the intent behind HM. It reminds me how many good, helpful people there are out there. Thanks for providing such a great service.
'I called out for mentor assistance a week or so ago.

I have been inundated with unbelievably helpful replies, and now have a toolkit to draw on to start turning around behaviours and mind-sets that have been detrimental in my life.

I just want to thank Horsesmouth and all the amazing people who reached out to me.  Each and every one of you has given me something to think about, and some have given me heaps of material with which to start working.  Now I need to do the work! Thank you so much!'
