Writerly , Empathetic , Friendly
I am a professional writer, working in film, television and transmedia.
I worked an office-job for years, writing before work in order to complete my first few projects unpaid and unsolicited. It was hard to motivate myself and it took a long time to make it habitual.
However, eventually things fell into place. I've been working as a full-time writer for three years, primarily working in film. I have been BAFTA and Writers' Guild nominated for projects I created and wrote, and am permanently in work. I have never been happier. But, as I say, getting there took years of hard work, pock-marked with some real disappointments and feelings of self-doubt.
Telling stories is what I do for a living. Mostly employed in film and television, but also write novels. I have been a full-time writer for three years.
After long years struggling to beat the blank page, I think I've learnt some important lessons about self-motivation. Writing can be a lonely, frustrating, and downright difficult endeavour. I have learnt many lessons along the way, particularly about embracing failure.
Screenwriting is my particular area of expertise. I have sold several original screenplays and worked on adaptations and rewrites for producers in both the UK and the US.
Many people have helped me along my journey; I will try to do the same for you.
