I am qualified to teach Adult Literacy, Numeracy, I.T. & Computing. I have also set up 2 succesful businesses and managed over 200 staff.
Interests include walking my dogs on the nearby beach, good food & wine (I've lectured on the subject); football - (I write match reports for newspapers & web sites) & I include Koi and tropical fish keeping amongst my hobbies.
I've taught prison inmates & represented their rights at meeting with prison governers. I understand the problems associated with prison and the serious consequences and fears of those (and their families) facing custodial sentences.
I'm willing to help anyone in need, asking for advice.

Life experiences

Police; Prison; Courts; Probation.

Anyone of us can get into difficulty, whether it's receiving a parking ticket or being arrested on suspicion of a criminal offence. Being chased for debt. Should I call a solicitor? Who is the best solicitor? Do I need a barrister? Do I need specialist advice? Am I entitled to legal aid? Will my case be in the magistrates or crown court? What does receiving a caution mean? What are bailiffs powers? Having served 12 years in the police service and worked closely with solicitors and barristers I am able to answer these and many more questions. I do not claim to be a legal expert, but I can point worried enquiries in the right direction and give good quality advice. I also have great insight into prison life and how it affects families and prisoners themselves. I have taught within two prisons and I am ever willing to help and advise anyone whose life is affected by the prison sentence of a loved one or even if you are under threat of a prison sentence and wonder what lays ahead for you.

Financial Advice; Pensions; Investments; Dealing with Debt

I trained as a financial adviser and was regarded as an NHS pensions expert. During my career I rose to managing director of a national independent financial adviser company. If you need any financial advice regarding overcoming worrying debts, banks, credit cards, mortgages, pension's etc., I feel sure I will be able to help

Improving CV's; Jobs & trouble at work; Management, Business, Adult Education

I am qualified to teach Literacy and Communication in the Lifelong Learning Sector (Over 16's and adults). A professional CV can help you get that job you have dreamed about. I can help you put together a professional looking CV, bringing out your very best, or I can point you in the direction of other professionals who might assist you without charge.

Why mentor on horsesmouth?

I visited the web site 'Do It' and having read the content and considered the opportunities, then decided as I have some free time I would like to volunteer to work within the community to benefit others. This is good use of my time and experience and from a selfish point of view I have no doubt I will enjoy the day to day challenges in providing the very best advice and service I am able. A reason why I believe this service is a good idea is that it is easy for people to use and is accessible without any need to be embarrassed. Face to face or even telephone calls can be an embarrassment to those seeking advice/support and this online mentoring finds a good way to avoid that encouraging those in need to seek advice, support or just have someone to communicate with.

I am very lucky to have found your website. Recently I wrote about a problem which I face very often.... There were 10 responses from 10 mentors. They have really explained to me and made me understand that I do not have any problem. Your services are wonderful and I am very much thankful to all of you.

I have been mentoring on HM for 18 months. I really enjoy it & hopefully I am helping other people. Recently I posted my my first 'request for a mentor'. I have been completely bowled over by the response. So many people taking their time & making the effort to offer constructive advice in a friendly polite manner. For me it completely validates the intent behind HM. It reminds me how many good, helpful people there are out there. Thanks for providing such a great service.
'I called out for mentor assistance a week or so ago.

I have been inundated with unbelievably helpful replies, and now have a toolkit to draw on to start turning around behaviours and mind-sets that have been detrimental in my life.

I just want to thank Horsesmouth and all the amazing people who reached out to me.  Each and every one of you has given me something to think about, and some have given me heaps of material with which to start working.  Now I need to do the work! Thank you so much!'
