Self description

Male , 38

I rather like higher education. If I can find an angle on the academic, I’m interested. I had a wealth of university experience both before and after my own time as an undergraduate.During the time that I was officially deemed a student (1998-2001), I didn’t just leave it at studying and socialising. Among other things, I:- Became a Senior Student- Was elected a Final Year Rep- Helped in founding an English SocietyI didn’t much like to sit still. Now I write a blog about university life in the UK, how to make the most of it, how to survive it, how to enjoy and how to work well.

Life experiences

Making the most of university

Maintaining a great work/life balance, looking after yourself, finding out what you can do to enjoy as much as you can and even make a positive difference to others.

Study, LifeHacks, Productivity

At uni, I found that it was time to stop learning the way I used to and develop all sorts of new techniques. With a bit of focus, there's a wealth of ideas to play with that can bring the best out of us.

Information Processing

We're bombarded with so much information. I continue to discover new ways of digesting more info in less time. The more we can embrace new information without finding it daunting, the better we can make use of it.

Why mentor on horsesmouth?

As each day goes by, I become more convinced that Higher Education is a wonderful thing. Some people become lifelong learners, others will only discover HE in their later years. But the possibilities are endless and can have a positive effect on a person's academic, social, working, and everyday life.Even with an active interest during my time at university, I wasn't able to make the most of everything that I might have wanted to enjoy at the time. Since then, I have heard many stories from people who would have liked more information or guidance, but didn't know where to turn. That's why I believe we can all help others in their search for things that they may not even realise they're trying to find...

I am very lucky to have found your website. Recently I wrote about a problem which I face very often.... There were 10 responses from 10 mentors. They have really explained to me and made me understand that I do not have any problem. Your services are wonderful and I am very much thankful to all of you.

I have been mentoring on HM for 18 months. I really enjoy it & hopefully I am helping other people. Recently I posted my my first 'request for a mentor'. I have been completely bowled over by the response. So many people taking their time & making the effort to offer constructive advice in a friendly polite manner. For me it completely validates the intent behind HM. It reminds me how many good, helpful people there are out there. Thanks for providing such a great service.
'I called out for mentor assistance a week or so ago.

I have been inundated with unbelievably helpful replies, and now have a toolkit to draw on to start turning around behaviours and mind-sets that have been detrimental in my life.

I just want to thank Horsesmouth and all the amazing people who reached out to me.  Each and every one of you has given me something to think about, and some have given me heaps of material with which to start working.  Now I need to do the work! Thank you so much!'
