Self description

Female , 29

My name is Lottie, I’m 21years old, i live with my mum and her husband and I work for a high street chain clothes store. I have just finished my degree in Psychology, longest three years of my life, as I’m now sick of studying. I did however enjoy the Counselling, Child Development & Coaching modules in the Psychology course. I’m looking to do some volunteering this year to get experience from the modules I enjoyed studying. I’ve had a few experiences in my life, some I am proud of others I wish I could change, but dwelling on the past will get you nowhere, the future is where to focus.

Life experiences

I’ve just finished my degree in Psychology :D

Being at uni is hard, it has its ups and downs.

Ups – living away from home, being independent, being with like minded people, making your own rules, going out when you want, studying something you actually enjoy etc.

Downs – living away from home, missing your friends, losing contact with your friends, struggling with money, addiction to partying, struggling to get a job, struggling with coursework and/or revision etc, the list goes on for the ups and downs of uni.

Well I’ve been there and/my friends have been there, so if your at uni or thinking of going to uni and need advice…don’t hesitate to ask. :)

Growing up without a father or a male role model

Absent fathers hey, occurring more often than it should. Dealing with no male role model, seeing my mother struggle to bring me up, dealing with mum’s boyfriends, relationships with men etc…I’ll help with advice where I can or even just listen to issues. :)

Illness in the family

A family member felt they ill and doctors could not find symptoms, so the illness developed in their head and they became fixed on the illness, which lead they to become mentally ill. – Low point in my life as I have never felt so alone, and scared that the family member would harm themselves and leave me alone in the world. Luckily with counselling the mental fixation of the illness stopped and life got back on track. :)

Why mentor on horsesmouth?

I’m willing to spare my time and energy helping others, who are perhaps not, for whatever reasons, having an easy time. Sometimes it’s easier to talk to someone you don’t know, as there is less judgement and I am here to help not judge. My 18 year old friend had to go through the ordeal to have an abortion 2 years ago. I’m so glad I was there for her in her time of need. I would hate to think of her going through that on her own and it’s a scary process, which inspired me to help others, as she had support she did not have to go through it alone. There’s nothing worse than feeling alone, especially if there is help out there…I hope I can help people through this site, so they perhaps don’t feel so alone.

I am very lucky to have found your website. Recently I wrote about a problem which I face very often.... There were 10 responses from 10 mentors. They have really explained to me and made me understand that I do not have any problem. Your services are wonderful and I am very much thankful to all of you.

I have been mentoring on HM for 18 months. I really enjoy it & hopefully I am helping other people. Recently I posted my my first 'request for a mentor'. I have been completely bowled over by the response. So many people taking their time & making the effort to offer constructive advice in a friendly polite manner. For me it completely validates the intent behind HM. It reminds me how many good, helpful people there are out there. Thanks for providing such a great service.
'I called out for mentor assistance a week or so ago.

I have been inundated with unbelievably helpful replies, and now have a toolkit to draw on to start turning around behaviours and mind-sets that have been detrimental in my life.

I just want to thank Horsesmouth and all the amazing people who reached out to me.  Each and every one of you has given me something to think about, and some have given me heaps of material with which to start working.  Now I need to do the work! Thank you so much!'
