Self description

Female , 55

I am a working, divorced mother of three and have just qualified as a Clinical Hypnotherapist.
My eldest child was diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic several years ago. I have experience in the issues this raises and can empathise greatly with anyone either suffering from this condition or with relatives trying to deal with it. My family background growing up was difficult and in my teens I suffered from anorexia. I recovered fully, but understand also the issues surrounding eating disorders. My first marriage ended due to my ex-husband's violence and control, and I received assistance from Womens Aid in escaping this marriage. Therefore, domestic violence is an area I feel able to offer support and practical advice on, as well as relationships, anxiety, building self-esteem, life-coaching and family related issues.
On a lighter note, I also have a design background and an interest in personal styling, fashion and interiors.

Life experiences

Domestic Violence

At the age of 21 I escaped an abusive and violent relationship with my daughter who was at the time one year old. I had no family support at the time.
I understand the emotional issues, underlying problems and financial difficulties being in this situation can cause and how difficult it can be to rebuild self-esteem. It can be done and I can help offer you some support and hopefully some useful advice.

Dealing With a Loved One Who Has Mental Health Issues

My lovely, bright and pretty daughter became ill in her late teens with what was later diagnosed as schizophrenia. She unfortunately suffers from this at a severe level. I have a lot of experience in coping with the issues arising from this, from successive hospitalisation, drug treatments and relapses. Also, the difficulties that often arise from trying to communicate with mental health professionals. Coping with a seriously mentally ill loved one is very hard, but there are ways to preserve a good quality of life and happiness for yourself whilst helping your relative as best you can. It can feel very lonely being in this situation. I can understand what you are going through if you are dealing with this and hope that I can offer constructive advice and support.

I feel that I can offer good constructive advice in this area. Whatever is worrying you, it often helps to speak to someone. I am non-judgemental and understanding.

Why mentor on horsesmouth?

I believe that we all have within ourselves the ability to deal with whatever problems life throws our way and also we have the potential to realise our goals and achieve those things that want most. Sometimes however, we need a little nudge in the right direction. A few encouraging words can make a huge difference when you have reached a point in life where you feel that you are struggling. I hope to be able to help by offering that encouragement and some practical advice where possible. I believe that it will be a two way process - this will also help me to learn and grow so that I can become a more effective therapist.

I am very lucky to have found your website. Recently I wrote about a problem which I face very often.... There were 10 responses from 10 mentors. They have really explained to me and made me understand that I do not have any problem. Your services are wonderful and I am very much thankful to all of you.

I have been mentoring on HM for 18 months. I really enjoy it & hopefully I am helping other people. Recently I posted my my first 'request for a mentor'. I have been completely bowled over by the response. So many people taking their time & making the effort to offer constructive advice in a friendly polite manner. For me it completely validates the intent behind HM. It reminds me how many good, helpful people there are out there. Thanks for providing such a great service.
'I called out for mentor assistance a week or so ago.

I have been inundated with unbelievably helpful replies, and now have a toolkit to draw on to start turning around behaviours and mind-sets that have been detrimental in my life.

I just want to thank Horsesmouth and all the amazing people who reached out to me.  Each and every one of you has given me something to think about, and some have given me heaps of material with which to start working.  Now I need to do the work! Thank you so much!'
