Self description

Female , 29

I'm 20 years old and i'm from Devon, I was studying Law at university, however after taking a year out I decided to withdraw and try something new. I am currently looking for a job and also hoping to find some volunteer work. After a year I may go back to university to study Politics or Philosophy.

I have a great family, we have our problems but we get through them. I am currently back living with my parents and younger sister.

I like music and play clarinet and guitar, I like to read about anything, fiction and non-fiction, I'm interested in politics and learning about the world.

Life experiences

University

I have had experience of univeristy life, the good parts and the bad. I can give advice on what to do if you have decided your course is not for you, but I can also help with general issues of living costs and just general welfare while studying. I can also help with things such as what to take for your first year or how to make friends.

Self Harm and Eating Disorders

I have battled both and have overcome self harm. I am still currently dealing with anorexia but I am willing to give my experience and offer support and advice to anyone struggling with either issue. I feel that sometimes it is important to talk to people who understand the problem.

Family Life

There have been ups and downs in my family after an affair nearly broke my parents marriage. I can offer support to those going through similar experiences and give advice on how to help your family or just how to get through it and keep going with your life, especially if you are studying or working during this time.

Why mentor on horsesmouth?

My motivation for joining Horsesmouth is because I want to be able to help people with issues I myself have struggled or experienced. I want to be able to offer support and good advice. I would like to be able to use my experience with university and health issues for a good cause. I believe this kind of mentoring is important because it is available to everyone and sometimes people just need to talk to someone, even if its just to get something off their chest. It can be an invaluable source of advice for some people who need to hear from someone in the same situation, as it makes them feel less alone, and in some cases that is all a person needs, just the knowledge that they are not alone.

I am very lucky to have found your website. Recently I wrote about a problem which I face very often.... There were 10 responses from 10 mentors. They have really explained to me and made me understand that I do not have any problem. Your services are wonderful and I am very much thankful to all of you.

I have been mentoring on HM for 18 months. I really enjoy it & hopefully I am helping other people. Recently I posted my my first 'request for a mentor'. I have been completely bowled over by the response. So many people taking their time & making the effort to offer constructive advice in a friendly polite manner. For me it completely validates the intent behind HM. It reminds me how many good, helpful people there are out there. Thanks for providing such a great service.
'I called out for mentor assistance a week or so ago.

I have been inundated with unbelievably helpful replies, and now have a toolkit to draw on to start turning around behaviours and mind-sets that have been detrimental in my life.

I just want to thank Horsesmouth and all the amazing people who reached out to me.  Each and every one of you has given me something to think about, and some have given me heaps of material with which to start working.  Now I need to do the work! Thank you so much!'
