Self description

Female , 28

Definitely time for an update! I think I've been here nearly two years now and I'm 22 years old. I'm currently studying a Degree in Psychology and a diploma in Criminology.

I volunteer as a mentor for sex offenders who have served their time and are re-entering the community. My ultimate goal is to gain as many qualifications within health and psychology whilst gaining experience through voluntary work and in the end undertake a Counselling Degree when I am old enough (25). I've undertaken G.C.S.E's and A Levels as well as extra subjects so I know a fair bit about being a student. I work in mental health and started out here as a volunteer when I was 17 - haven't left since!

I have diplomas in Counselling, Mental Health and Social Work.

As an outlet for all the above, I'm a keen amateur photographer and writer. I like to create beautiful things through artistic measures to counteract some of the terrible things I see everyday.

Life experiences

Bereavement and Loss

Wether this be Bereavement through death or through loss of a person I feel that i can adequatley share and advice in this area. I have lost family members to death, a very close partner through relationship break down, and varying clients through my work.

I have been in the good and the bad, and most recently the bad. I know what it feels like to be in a relationship that you know you shouldn't be in anymore because your own health is at risk, but you just cannot end it.
How to cope with the knowledge that you weren't the only one for your partner...cheating...feelings of mistrust and that you will never find that perfect someone again...I am expert in all of these and only to happy to share my insight :)

Family Problems

Whether this is conflicts between family members, divorce, breakdown in relationships or outside factors influencing general feeling within a family, I can honestly say that I have experienced all.

There are other subjects which I specialise in.

Mental Disorders - Bipolar/Dissociative/Anorexia/Bulemia/Self harm/Self confidence

Volunteering and community life.

College/School/Uni life

Why mentor on horsesmouth?

Sometimes people need a bit of extra advice or a different outlook on things that are going on in their lives. There isn't always a facility available to give this. Working online as a mentor allows people a chance to confide without having to go through the shyness and lack of confidence sometimes experienced in person. I am training to become a counsellor, and I have been through and seen so much in my 21 years that I feel I could help alot of people just by letting them know that there is someone else out there who has been through what they have been through. Although there are three subject areas on my profile, there are many more which I feel I can cover well.

I am very lucky to have found your website. Recently I wrote about a problem which I face very often.... There were 10 responses from 10 mentors. They have really explained to me and made me understand that I do not have any problem. Your services are wonderful and I am very much thankful to all of you.

I have been mentoring on HM for 18 months. I really enjoy it & hopefully I am helping other people. Recently I posted my my first 'request for a mentor'. I have been completely bowled over by the response. So many people taking their time & making the effort to offer constructive advice in a friendly polite manner. For me it completely validates the intent behind HM. It reminds me how many good, helpful people there are out there. Thanks for providing such a great service.
'I called out for mentor assistance a week or so ago.

I have been inundated with unbelievably helpful replies, and now have a toolkit to draw on to start turning around behaviours and mind-sets that have been detrimental in my life.

I just want to thank Horsesmouth and all the amazing people who reached out to me.  Each and every one of you has given me something to think about, and some have given me heaps of material with which to start working.  Now I need to do the work! Thank you so much!'
