Self description

Female , 46

I have a degree in Psychology, a counselling certificate, but more importantly (I feel) lots of experience of life.
Bit of a troubled childhood; emotional neglect, mother neurotic, adopted, so problems with self esteem, rejection, etc. Phobias acquired when a child.
However, relationship with adopted parents getting stronger and closer. I am more accepting of the past and wish to move forward. I love my adopted parents very much despite everything.
Found natural mother and natural longer in contact with either, long story, but mother didn't wish to know me after reacquainting with me after 12 years, for her own reasons, unknown to me. Tried to find the rest of may natural family but they aren't interested and cousins and my aunt even blocked me on facebook when I simply emailed them. I have no idea why as they won't talk to me.
Raped when I was 17. Been in several 'bad' relationships, such as domestic violence, particularly emotional abuse.
Had more than one 'nervous breakbreakdown' (never hospitalised) which were based on extreme anxiety.
Suffered postnatal depression after my daughter was born. Unable to keep her with me due to my childhood, lives with her dad. Contact with her not regular enough (he continually fights me) but our bond has never wavered.
Lost my best friend to suicide and blamed myself for her death.
Had a termination and this triggered more anxiety and agoraphobia.
Had breast enhancement.
Got a degree in Psychology, just finished a conversion degree in law...trying to get out into the big world to make a future for myself and my daughter.

Life experiences

Positive thinking

I am able to think in a forward fashion and solve problems to reduce anxiety and depression

Degree in this but able to understand what makes people tick

Domestic Violence

Plenty of experience of this in relationships, know about refuges and Women's Aid and the aftermath of such relationships and much empathy

Why mentor on horsesmouth?

I would like to help people who are suffering...particularly hate to think of people experiencing any sort of sadness or despair. I have my own website to help people with anxiety. Determination has always helped me to overcome problems and I would like to pass this to others.

I am very lucky to have found your website. Recently I wrote about a problem which I face very often.... There were 10 responses from 10 mentors. They have really explained to me and made me understand that I do not have any problem. Your services are wonderful and I am very much thankful to all of you.

I have been mentoring on HM for 18 months. I really enjoy it & hopefully I am helping other people. Recently I posted my my first 'request for a mentor'. I have been completely bowled over by the response. So many people taking their time & making the effort to offer constructive advice in a friendly polite manner. For me it completely validates the intent behind HM. It reminds me how many good, helpful people there are out there. Thanks for providing such a great service.
'I called out for mentor assistance a week or so ago.

I have been inundated with unbelievably helpful replies, and now have a toolkit to draw on to start turning around behaviours and mind-sets that have been detrimental in my life.

I just want to thank Horsesmouth and all the amazing people who reached out to me.  Each and every one of you has given me something to think about, and some have given me heaps of material with which to start working.  Now I need to do the work! Thank you so much!'
