Self description

Female , 59

Hi I'm interested in life and people in general. I'm an only child, parents still living. I have been divorced and remarried, lived in Spain for 10 years so speak and understand the lingo. I am interested in other cultures, customs and religions. I have survived redundancy and although it's been hard finding work I have temped and signed on to make ends meet. I have a sense of fun and humour, love watching football, going to the cinema and theatre, walking, playing crown green bowls, spending time with friends and family. I feel a bit in limbo at the moment - I have loads of life experience but don't know how to channel my skills, etc., in a useful way. I like to help people find their way but have trouble sorting myself out!

Life experiences

Going through a divorce

I was married for nine years and went through a divorce - if there's anyway I can help someone through what is one of life's major changes, then I would be happy to do so.

Redundancy

I took voluntary redundancy in 2008 and found it quite upsetting. The company was not very proactive when it came to helping people through the ordeal so if I can help someone get through their own redundancy crisis then I would be happy to do so.

Bullying/Ageism

I was bullyed at work when I was quite mature and the HR department where I worked wanted to sweep things under the carpet - the inference being it was my problem not theirs. I ended up in therapy because of it and was lucky enough to get through the other side. If I can help someone else through their own bullying nightmare then I would be happy to do so.

Why mentor on horsesmouth?

I'm motivated to join horsesmouth because I would like to help mentor people and I like the idea of it being online. I don't feel experienced enough to mentor face-to-face and this would be an ideal opportunity to gain some confidence myself. I have reached a point in my life where I have all these ideas, experiences, etc., floating around and going to waste. If my life experiences can help someone else be better equipped to face their own challenges, then that will be reward enough.

I am very lucky to have found your website. Recently I wrote about a problem which I face very often.... There were 10 responses from 10 mentors. They have really explained to me and made me understand that I do not have any problem. Your services are wonderful and I am very much thankful to all of you.

I have been mentoring on HM for 18 months. I really enjoy it & hopefully I am helping other people. Recently I posted my my first 'request for a mentor'. I have been completely bowled over by the response. So many people taking their time & making the effort to offer constructive advice in a friendly polite manner. For me it completely validates the intent behind HM. It reminds me how many good, helpful people there are out there. Thanks for providing such a great service.
'I called out for mentor assistance a week or so ago.

I have been inundated with unbelievably helpful replies, and now have a toolkit to draw on to start turning around behaviours and mind-sets that have been detrimental in my life.

I just want to thank Horsesmouth and all the amazing people who reached out to me.  Each and every one of you has given me something to think about, and some have given me heaps of material with which to start working.  Now I need to do the work! Thank you so much!'
