Self description

Female , 52

My entire life has been caring for others - childhood raised younger siblings - married 17 mother at 18 carer of disabled daughter born to me when I was 19. Single parent majority of my life - living on state benefit - returning to college and voluntary work when life permits me. Taught adult literature - C A B but only for a very short time - foster carer - vunerable person whom fights for those whom are underdogs to myself or even those whom are not .... governer on NHS Foundation Trust and aware thats goodbye nhs the last great thing of this country that was meant for the people. Anger at our losses and abuses that still go on within this country is what makes me tick and very angry as well as the apparent loss of common sense in the red tape world!

Life experiences

Injured children I have a close empathy with the issues they face in getting help and facing those whom they love if they were the ones to hurt them. I am also aware of how inadvertantly people can hurt their children and the pain - issues resulting and ability to heal and move on.

I have 23 years experience scoping from having to face accepting/learning of a disability - I know how to give advice on how to 'give' so much of yourself if you chose to be a full time carer - of the pitfalls and of the advantages and rewards. Aware fully that we all have different characters and there will always be different solutions or avenues to explore

Benefits and housing

I have experience of benefits that span almost quarter of a century - particularly the illusion benefits and hardships that are enforced with them as a carer. Not having a council house for over 13 years and the consequences of private renting whilst on benefits - the abuse felt and or experienced by both the landlord and government refusal to pay rent and enforcing further hardship and poverty and inability to ever work too ............

Why mentor on horsesmouth?

I searched for a long time to find help and coped too many years alone - the hard way - by the time I had found the help I needed - I also needed someone whom had the reality factor not a book experience person but a survivor with insight enabled me to trust ....... enough to begin building a life again. I am non judgemental and open minded in almost every thing in life but I am able to put myself in most peoples shoes but I do draw the line at what I feel is evil.

I am very lucky to have found your website. Recently I wrote about a problem which I face very often.... There were 10 responses from 10 mentors. They have really explained to me and made me understand that I do not have any problem. Your services are wonderful and I am very much thankful to all of you.

I have been mentoring on HM for 18 months. I really enjoy it & hopefully I am helping other people. Recently I posted my my first 'request for a mentor'. I have been completely bowled over by the response. So many people taking their time & making the effort to offer constructive advice in a friendly polite manner. For me it completely validates the intent behind HM. It reminds me how many good, helpful people there are out there. Thanks for providing such a great service.
'I called out for mentor assistance a week or so ago.

I have been inundated with unbelievably helpful replies, and now have a toolkit to draw on to start turning around behaviours and mind-sets that have been detrimental in my life.

I just want to thank Horsesmouth and all the amazing people who reached out to me.  Each and every one of you has given me something to think about, and some have given me heaps of material with which to start working.  Now I need to do the work! Thank you so much!'
