Who we are

ShortList is a free weekly magazine published in the United Kingdom. The magazine has the biggest circulation of any men's lifestyle magazine in Britain. ShortList revolutionised British publishing when it launched in 2007, the first upmarket men's weekly to tap into a previously neglected but large audience of smart British urban men.

Our areas of expertise

Big life stuff

Our mentors have signed up to offer you guidance, advice and support on life and the big stuff. From the lows, such as illness, bereavement or addiction, to the highs, like caring for a new baby or starting a new relationship.

Jobs, work, careers & business

Learn from those who have 'been there done that' and can give you the benefit of their personal perspective through mentoring. From getting help on how to find a job from someone who works in your field; careers advice from someone who’s actually doing the job you aspire to, or maybe you have a business idea you need a bit of help in getting off the ground.

Learning, training and skills

Mentors can help you work out issues around your education, skills and training. Mentors are not professional advisors and don't make specific recommendations, but can help using the benefit of their own personal experiences. Whether you're making a big choice early in life or a big change later in life you can probably find someone here who has a helpful perspective.

Why we're on horsesmouth

We believe that mentoring can help deal with a crisis amongst young men. Boys are slipping way behind girls in education at all levels, and as they grow into young men are increasingly experiencing persistent problems such as unemployment, depression, addiction and lack of direction in their working lives. At the same time, there is a dearth of male role models in the public eye, and many men who have 'been there and done that' do not feel that they could be mentors or are worthy of being mentors. At a time when support and counselling services are being cut, this campaign will tackle these issues head on by encouraging our readers to think about the next generation and how we can support them by being active role models and mentors.

I am very lucky to have found your website. Recently I wrote about a problem which I face very often.... There were 10 responses from 10 mentors. They have really explained to me and made me understand that I do not have any problem. Your services are wonderful and I am very much thankful to all of you.

I have been mentoring on HM for 18 months. I really enjoy it & hopefully I am helping other people. Recently I posted my my first 'request for a mentor'. I have been completely bowled over by the response. So many people taking their time & making the effort to offer constructive advice in a friendly polite manner. For me it completely validates the intent behind HM. It reminds me how many good, helpful people there are out there. Thanks for providing such a great service.
'I called out for mentor assistance a week or so ago.

I have been inundated with unbelievably helpful replies, and now have a toolkit to draw on to start turning around behaviours and mind-sets that have been detrimental in my life.

I just want to thank Horsesmouth and all the amazing people who reached out to me.  Each and every one of you has given me something to think about, and some have given me heaps of material with which to start working.  Now I need to do the work! Thank you so much!'
