helpful , energetic , honest
The Why Do campaign is an exciting partnership between Horsesmouth and O2’s Think Big programme, set up to help answer the age old question of “why do young people do the things they do”. It’s the brainchild of Sabian, a passionate young campaigner. He hates the way different generations struggle to communicate – and wanted to do something about it. O2 listened to his idea, and through Think Big gave him the support he needed to turn the Why Do concept into a reality. Now his hope is to use this service to help bridge the generation gap in the UK.
Through an innovative new online question and answer service, our young mentors will answer questions about young people from members of the public, giving adults an opportunity to find out what young people really think.
Why Do aims to use technology to bridge the generation gap, by allowing adults to ask questions online and receive honest answers from our team of young volunteers. We have selected a group of aspiring young mentors, ready to help adults understand a little more about young people and what really makes them tick, countering some well known prejudices and showing how much valuable knowledge and insight they have to share. It’s one small step to making the world a bit better, in keeping with the aims of the Think Big programme from O2.
Horsesmouth already has thousands of young mentors interacting across all age groups, and know just how valued the advice of young people can be. Young mentors regularly help people of their parents’ age across a wide range of areas, from empathising with teenagers in the family, to lending advice on the impact of divorce or illness; or simply explaining what’s good in new music. The Why Do’ question and answer service will help bring the advice of young people to a much wider audience.
We’re working with Horsesmouth to find enthusiastic volunteers, willing to answer questions from adults about a range of subjects. If you’re under 25 and keen to improve peoples perceptions of young people, please click here to sign up as a mentor. We’ve made the commitment to bridging the generation gap – now we need you to help us make it happen.
