Guardian News and Media is one of the UK's most successful and innovative media companies, publishing the Guardian and Observer, two of the world's oldest quality newspapers, and guardian.co.uk, one of the world's leading news websites. The Guardian's unique ownership structure through the Scott Trust ensures the independence of its editorial voice, and a sustained investment in intelligent, liberal journalism.
GNM employs over 1700 staff who collectively have a huge range of skills and experience associated with working at a multimedia company, from print and online journalism, design, photography to audio production. Our commercial departments also have a range of expertise in advertising, marketing and events, PR, finance, HR, technology and business strategy.
As individuals, however we are not defined solely by our careers, and GNM staff, like others in the Horsesmouth community have an array of life skills and experiences that may be of benefit to others. Our mentors may choose to mentor on topics from their lives outside work, as well as on previous experiences they have been through.
Every day in our newspapers and online, we write about social justice issues affecting groups and individuals around the world, and we strongly believe that words should follow through with action. To this end, GNM has an active community programme which supports a number of local partners with skills, funding and resources. Horsesmouth offers us the opportunity to build on this activity by directly connecting a greater number of individuals with experience to those who may benefit from it, through using the web as a medium to generate positive social good.
"There is grit in my wounds
I cleaned it out
Sowed it up
Planted a seed
-trying is the most important step..."
